Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village

Hida Folk Village (Hida Minzoku Mura) is a large open air museum in Takayama which features traditional houses from the region. There are over 30 traditional buildings and farmhouses from the Edo to Meiji periods on the site, which have been relocated and beautifully preserved in a reconstructed rural setting. The entire village is picturesque, with swans swimming in the central pond, green moss growing on the thatched roofs, and flowers blooming in season.

The highlights are the typical gasshōzukuri houses, with the steep thatched roofs built entirely without nails . All the structures, which range from 100 to 500 years old, are open to the public and are filled with furniture, old spindles and looms, utensils for cooking and dining. Great place to go to learn about the fascinating traditions and idyllic life of Hida in its good old days.
